Another paddy seed scam busted in Patiala

PATIALA: The Patiala police on Thursday busted another paddy seed scam in which one person has been arrested and a huge cache of unapproved seeds has been recovered.
According to senior superintendent of police Mandip Singh Sidhu, one Jaspinder Kaur had filed a complaint with the Anaj Mandi police station alleging that some of the local seed dealers were selling seeds that had not been approved by the concerned authorities.
As the cops started to investigate the matter, it came to light that one of the local seed dealers Radhey Shyam had accumulated several bags of seed. As the investigators proceeded they recovered 93 Bags of paddy seeds.
On being checked by the Seed Inspector cum Agriculture Development Officer, Block Patiala these were found to be that of PR 128 and PR 129 paddy variety seeds which were being sold without any authorization. It was also found that the accused who operates Vishnu Seed Store in the local grain market had been selling at inflated rates.
Following this, a case under Sections 420 of the IPC and Section & 7 of the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 was registered at Anaj Mandi police station. The police said the matter was being further investigated.
Few days ago, a similar scam had been busted in Ludhiana which is now being investigated by a special investigating team in which two persons have so far been arrested.
