Buzzing! Nature-lover is swarmed by HUMMINGBIRDS after creating amazing feeding hat using plastic flowers stuck to his glasses

  • A nature-lover from Lyons, Colorado, attached three feeding trays to his glasses
  • He waits for birds to come to him and at first one comes to feed from the helmet
  • He is soon surrounded by six hummingbirds who flock to him to wait their turn

A nature-lover built a hummingbird feeding helmet and stood perfectly still while the birds flocked to feed from his headgear.

In the footage, the man from Lyons, Colorado, is seen with three plastic flowers attached to his glasses and waiting for the hummingbirds to come to him.

Only one comes at first, tentatively feeding from the helmet before backing away slightly.

There are soon six birds hovering around him and waiting their turn to feed from one of the three feeding plates.

The man remains completely still as the hummingbirds hover around his head.

He keeps a straight face for the first half of the clip but breaks into a slight smile as more birds flock to the feeder.

Hummingbirds are always hungry because of their extremely fast metabolism which means they have to consume half their bodyweight every day, according to Discover Wildlife

When they sleep, they have to go into a deeper state which resembles a mini hibernation called torpor.

During this time, their metabolism slows right down so that they can get through the night.

If they were to sleep in a normal way, they'd starve overnight.

Their diet is mostly made up of nectar, but they also eat small insects and spiders.
