132 more test +ve, city’s case count nears 1.2k

Gurgaon: The city reported 132 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, taking its tally to 1,195. Out of these, 903 are active cases while 288 people have been discharged after recovery.
The PRO of the police department is among those who tested positive. He is currently in home quarantine. Contact tracing has begun and samples from the police commissionerate are being taken.
Gurgaon’s rate of Covid positivity, which was 2.14% on May 20, is now 7.75%, much higher than Haryana’s 2.39%.
“Contact tracing, identifying infection source and segregating people who have been exposed to patients is key. Gurgaon’s positivity is alarming,” said a health official.
The health department said four people have died so far of Covid-19. Two others are critical. “The majority of the cases are contacts of positive cases. We are collecting more than 300 samples daily, which is reflected in the numbers. About 80% cases are asymptomatic and have been advised to stay in home quarantine,” said Dr Ram Prakash Rai, district epidemiologist.
Health officials also said they are monitoring those in home isolation. “Our teams are visiting them every day to evaluate their status. We are also in touch with their family members and make them aware of how they should take care of themselves and the patient,” Dr Rai added.
40 cases in Fbd
Meanwhile, 40 more people tested positive for Covid in Faridabad on Wednesday, taking the district’s tally to 525.
A senior doctor of ESIC Medical College and Hospital indicated that community transmission may have started. “Earlier people testing positive were the contacts of patients, but now people going out to buy groceries or vegetables are also falling ill and testing positive for Covid-19. This shows community transmission may have begun,” said the doctor.
Sources said the nodal officer for Covid-19 at the hospital had tested positive on Tuesday. However, health department officials said he did not contract the infection at the hospital but from his domestic helper, who was positive.
Divisional commissioner Sanjay Joon, meanwhile, asked private hospitals to reserve 25% beds for Covid cases.
