A suspicious device has been found in a Gold Coast shopping centre.

The item was identified about 11.30am on Thursday in Australia Fair shopping centre in Southport.

Police have asked pedestrians and traffic to avoid the Gold Coast Highway northbound in the vicinity of Marine Parade.
