French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli is hell-bent on hosting the French Open in September whether there are fans or not.

After the tennis schedule was thrown into disarray due to the coronavirus pandemic, French officials decided to move Roland Garros from its usual May - June slot to 20 September - 4 October.

However, question marks over whether or not the French Open will take place in September persist and France’s top player Gael Monfils asked Giudicelli to put the issue to bed.

“Yes I confirm to you Gael, Roland Garros will take place,” he told the world No 9 during conversation on the latter’s Twitch channel.

Whether spectators will be allowed to attend is another matter though as the French government’s ban on gatherings of more than 500 people remains in place until September.

“The preferred option is to have a Roland Garros with maximum spectators,” Giudicelli added.

“Depending on health conditions, we will adapt to the directives the government gives us. The government will decide how many people can be there.”
