Gujarat on Wednesday surpassed the figure of 485
Covid-19 positive cases it recorded on Wednesday – the highest so far – on very second day with 492 in 24 hours ending 5 pm. With the new cases, state’s tally has reached to 18,601.
Out of total, 291 are from Ahmedabad, 81 from Surat, 39 from Vadodara and 21 from Gandhinagar.
Gujarat recorded deaths of 33 Covid-19 positive patients in 24 hours. The figure includes 28 from Ahmedabad and one each from Botad, Kutch, Gandhinagar, Patan and Valsad. In all, Gujarat has recorded 1,155 deaths so far.
With the deaths, Ahmedabad’s death toll has risen to 938. The district has recorded an average 24 daily deaths in the first four days of June at the total of 96 deaths from June 1 to 4.
In past 24 hours, Gujarat recorded discharge of 455 patients. The figure includes 296 from Ahmedabad, 53 from Surat, 51 from Mahisagar and 34 from Vadodara. Cumulatively, Gujarat has recorded discharge of 12,667 patients.
Out of 18,601 total positive Covid-19 cases in Gujarat, 4779 (25.7%) are active, 12,667 (68.1%) are discharged and 1155 (6.2%) are dead. With the new figures for past 24 hours, the state now has only a quarter of the total patients as active, said state health department officials. Out of active patients, 68 are on ventilator, they added.
Analysis of the deaths reveal that the death rate (deaths per 100 cases) has remained above 6% - one of the highest in India. In March, the death rate was 8.1% which got reduced to 4.8% in April. In May – the month that recorded the highest number of positive cases and deaths – the figure rose to 6.6%. In the first four days of June, the death rate is 6.4%.
Gujarat carried out 6,023 tests in past 24 hours to find new Covid-19 positive patients. Total tests conducted in state is now at 2.33 lakh. It is second consecutive day and third in past seven days that the daily tests have increased to more than 6,000 a day.
Gujarat has 2.2 lakh persons under quarantine including 2.13 lakh under home quarantine.
