Representative imageMUMBAI: A 35-year-old nurse who was returning home after duty died in a hit-and-run accident on Eastern Express Highway in Ghatkopar late on Monday. An eyewitness has given the registration number of the 'white car' involved in the accident to the police. "We are scanning CCTV footages collected from the area to trace the car and the driver," said Pant Nagar senior police inspector Sahash Kamble.
The victim was identified as Shehnaaz Tahir Khan, who lived in a BMC chawl at Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar (E) and worked at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri. According to the police, Khan, who was using the hospital's transport facility, got off near a bus stop on the highway and was walking home when the car rammed into her. While the driver drove away, she lay injured on the road till a passerby alerted the police. Cops took her to Rajawadi Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries early on Tuesday.
The police have booked the driver under IPC sections for causing death due to negligence, and rash and negligent driving, and also under the Motor Vehicles Act.
