While the Lamborghini Huracan Performante may be growing a little long in the tooth and simply doesn’t have the performance to match the likes of the Ferrari F8 Tributo and McLaren 720S, it is still one heck of a performance machine with one of the most desirable engines of any current production car.

You see, whereas the Lamborghini’s rivals feature twin-turbocharged V8 engines, the Huracan is driven by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that delivers 631 hp and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) in Performante guise. Those are very respectable figures, and when paired with an intoxicating engine note, give the Huracan a unique appeal.

AutoTopNL recently had the opportunity to see what the Huracan Performante is capable of, heading to an unrestricted section of the Autobahn for some performance testing.

With launch control enabled, the Italian supercar rocketed off the line and hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.02 seconds. The Performante continues to pull well through the gears, running from 62 mph to 124 mph (200 km/h) 5.94 seconds before being pushed through to no less than 330 km/h (205 mph).

Even though the Huracan has been in production since 2014, its successor is still thought to be a good few years away from hitting the market. In the meantime, a new flagship variation of the Huracan, potentially dubbed the STO, is in the works.

Two spy images of the car emerged at the start of March, revealing the car will essentially look like a baby version of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and come complete with a roof scoop, a shark fin, and an aggressive new rear wing. Until it breaks cover, though, the Performante will remain the top dog in Huracan’s range, so let’s see (and hear) what it’s like.
