Germany, Portugal contenders to host CL final

MUNICH: Germany and Portugal are contenders to host the delayed Champions League final which is due to be moved from Istanbul. A June 17 meeting of UEFA’s executive committee will decide the new location for the August final – with that country also set to stage the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Germany won’t punish players for Floyd protests

DÜSSELDORF: The German soccer federation said it will not punish those who protest against the killing of George Floyd. The Bundesliga has seen several players feature messages on their clothing and make gestures since Floyd died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee for several minutes on his neck. The German soccer federation, known as the DFB, said it opposed punishing any players for on-field protests related to Floyd’s death because it believes their anti-racism messages match the federation’s own principles.

Golfers Rashid, Aditi and Diksha for Arjuna

NEW DELHI: Golfers Rashid Khan, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar have been recommended for this year’s Arjuna Awards by the national federation. Rashid is the highest ranked Indian male golfer in the world while Aditi is the only woman golfer from the country to be currently playing on the Ladies PGA Tour in the US.

KP ‘disgusted’ over Kerala elephant incident

NEW DELHI: Former England batsman and animal activist Kevin Pietersen has expressed his ‘disgust’ over the inhuman incident where a pregnant elephant was fed pineapple stuffed with firecrackers in Kerala. “DISGUSTED with the images I’ve been sent from India overnight over the senseless brutality of this mummy elephant. Why would someone do this?!?! Just why?!?” Pietersen posted on Instagram with photos of the dastardly incident.

Not safe to train yet: BCB tells players

DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury revealed the board had to turn down players’ request to resume training considering the ongoing situation related to COVID-19.  Wicket-keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim had approached the officials but was asked to train at home till the situation improves a bit. 

Shoaib summoned over PCB advisor’s complaint

LAHORE: Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who was accused of cyber stalking by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal advisor, has been summoned by the Federal Investigation agency’s cybercrime wing on Friday to record his statement. The accusation was made against Akhtar by Taffazul Rizvi in a complaint filed with the FIA last week. No case has been registered till now against the former cricketer, who told a local TV channel that he is yet to receive the FIA notice.

Spurs confirm one positive COVID-19 case

LONDON: One member of Tottenham Hotspur’s squad has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Premier League club has confirmed. On Wednesday, the Premier League announced the results of the fifth-round of testing, confirming just one out of the 1,197 players and club staff that were tested on Monday and Tuesday returned positive.
