MS ChinnanLUDHIANA: In yet another distinction for Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, one of its outstanding alumnus and world authority in processing of peanuts, cereals, fruits, and vegetables, Manjeet Chinnan has been elected as fellow (2020) to the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST). While congratulating Chinnan for being recognized as a leader at the world level, PAU vice-chancellor, BS Dhillon expressed delight for the unique and very prestigious honour. “The University is very proud of one of its most distinguished alumni, Dr Manjeet Chinnan”, remarked Dhillon.
"Dr Manjeet Chinnan completed his bachelors’ in engineering from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, in the year 1969 and went on to do his doctorate in bio and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University. After an illustrious career spanning 38 years as a food engineer at the University of Georgia, he is now working as professor Emeritus in the same university after retirement. While his research and professional work have taken him literally all over the world, as a keynote and plenary speaker, training foreign scientists, receiving international recognitions, Dr Chinnan’s impressive publication record of more than 500 and 170 refereed articles in international journals and more than 10 million dollars of contracts and grants speak volumes of his intellect and dedication in his field. His most recent recognition at the international level is his appointment as a fellow of International Academy of Food Science and Technology," a PAU spokesperson said. "Above all, Dr Chinnan is fondly remembered by his students and young faculty members as a caring mentor. One of his students is currently serving as the president of the New Mexico State University.
It may be mentioned that Chinnan is one of the core contributors to the PAU Endowment Fund, named ‘Dr Manjeet Singh Chinnan and Lata Mahajan Chinnan Endowment Fund’. He had visited the university in the year 2015, along with wife, professor Lata Mahajan Chinnan (also an alumnus of PAU) and contributed $10,000 over a period of ten years for promotion of academics and sports.
