CM Manohar Lal KhattarGURUGRAM: Industry owners in the city have demanded additional floor area ratio (FAR) in work areas for construction of accommodation and canteens for the employees and workers as directed by the government.
City-based industry association Gurugram Industrial Association (GIA) on Monday wrote to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on the matter. “We are not ready as there is no support from the authorities and housing in NCR cities is expensive. If additional FAR is allowed by the state government, it will ensure operation of industrial units during the pandemic as the workers can be accommodated at in-house facilities,” GIA said in its letter.
Major KC Sandal (retd), a city-based industrialist and GIA vice-president, said the pandemic has affected the entire country and the economy has collapsed due to the sudden shutdown of industrial units.
Housing is not possible at their level without support from state government, industrialists said. “The present state of living conditions of labours is unhygienic, polluting and hazardous. If the issue is not addressed on a priority basis, it can develop into potential danger spots like Dharavi of Mumbai,” GIA president JN Mangla said.
