Mumbai lockdown news: Today's updates

As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* Update at 9.15am: India reports 9,304 new Covid-19 cases & 260 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the country now at 2,16,919 including 1,06,737 active cases, 1,04,107 cured/discharged/migrated and 6,075 deaths
*As Unlock 1.0 begins, housing societies across the city are taking their first tentative steps to opening up. While restrictions on outsiders continue to be in place, several societies are allowing technicians, plumbers, electricians and delivery persons with mandatory checks. Thermal screening and Aarogya Setu app are a must at many places now. But allowing maids, shifting of tenants and flat renovation work before monsoon remain grey areas as the state's 'Mission Begin Again' document is silent on these aspects.
*The term ‘Covid’ was missing from the death certificate of a 65-year-old Bhandup man who passed away on May 31 after three days of treatment in the Covid ward of Sion Hospital. Taking it to be a ‘natural’ death as mentioned in the certificate, his son carried out the last rites following all rituals, only to be told the next day that his father was Covid-positive and that their house had to be sealed as a containment zone.
*A fireman, Pandit Keshav Salgaonkar, posted at Kurla fire station died of Covid-19 in Nair hospital on Wednesday. It is the fifth death in the Mumbai fire brigade in nearly two weeks. Till Wednesday, more than 50 firemen have tested positive, of which 17 are recuperating in hospitals and 20 are in quarantine.
* Faced with delays in getting regulatory approvals for Covid diagnostic kits, the domestic medical device industry has said that the government is discriminating, and sought a level playing field with importers, in line with the “Make in India” vision.
*With 122 Covid-19 deaths recorded on Wednesday—the highest in a day since the start of the outbreak—Maharashtra’s toll surpassed the 2,500 mark to reach 2,587. The state claimed that the rate of increase of cases has nearly halved from 7.76% on May 1 to 4.15% on June 1 even as 2,560 new cases were added on Wednesday, taking the overall case count to 74,860.
