Ranchi: The Indian Railways arranged for a Shramik special train from Guwahati to bring back workers from Assam and Mizoram. The train is expected to depart from Guwahati station at 6 pm on Thursday and arrive at Hatia railway station in Ranchi at 10:30pm on June 5. The train, scheduled to depart from Assam’s Lumding station on Tuesday night, was cancelled owing to a landslide which disrupted the railway network, railway officials in Ranchi said. More than 350 workers of the state, who were stranded in Assam and Mizoram, were to be brought back in the train.
Many workers, who were brought to Lumding station in vehicles arranged by Assam government, were taken back to their bases after the train was cancelled. A group of 16 workers, who were waiting at Guwahati railway station to board the train, however, were stranded.
Jharkhand government on Wednesday morning dispatched a bus from Sahibganj to pick up the stranded workers from Guwahati station. “The bus is expected to pick them up on Wednesday evening,” transport secretary K Ravikumar said.
