Vellore: The woman aged around 35 years spent some time at Royapuram in Chennai, a COVID-19 hot spot. When she returned to two days ago to her residence at Udayendram, near Vaniyambadi, she was tested and found positive for the virus on Tuesday evening.
Revenue, health and fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the woman’s residence at Udayendram town panchayat with an ambulance to admit her to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital. But, her husband kicked up a row and refused to send her alone to Vellore. When the officials insisted, the man threatened to commit suicide in front of them. The officials became restive as the man was unrelenting till midnight.
Finally, a fire service official attempted to fall at his feet saying, “we are doing this for your own good.” The man rushed to the official shouting “no, no.” This move did the trick and he had a change of heart and gave his nod. Officials heaved a sigh of relief and took the woman to Vellore hospital. Her kin were also quarantined.
