MOHALI: The coronavirus lockdown has driven the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) to achieve its target of declaring overall 100% pass percentage result this year for class X. Grading system made it possible for PSEB to showcase the target achieving which earlier ranged between 44% to 93% overall pass percentage. However, many schools individually did produce 100% pass percentage but overall average dropped.
On May 29, Punjab School Education Board declared results for students of class V, VIII and Matriculation on the basis of grading system. The results of registered students have been declared on the basis of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). PSEB will conduct examinations of the open school students, golden chance, improvement and other additional subjects at Matriculation level as these students are not covered under CCE criteria.
Education Secretary Krishan Kumar said that the Punjab Government is continuously monitoring the situation in the state and PSEB will conduct examinations only after the government will allow them for student activities in the schools.
Last year PSEB schools created history by surpassing the private schools in pass percentage. In the year 2018-19 the class X results declared by PSEB saw 93.45% pass percentage which was 66.94% during the 2017-18 academic year. Similarly, the pass percentage in the academic year of 2016-17 was 44.73%. It is in 2019-20 that the 100% pass percentage target has been achieved based upon CCE grading owing to Corona lockdown.
Punjab education Secretary Krishan Kumar said, “The increase in total pass percentage is a result of cumulative efforts made by the education department and teachers. Here in Mohali we have also applied the formula of enhancement of teacher’s ability through capacity building and regular monitoring of the students performance subject wise. Whichever subject found weak, teacher paid extra attention to the student in improving that very subject which resulted in overall upliftment of the student in academics.”
He added that this experiment proved successful in getting better performance by the students as well as teachers proved by good results in class X and XII last year as well as this year, said Krishan Kumar.
