Traffic cops urge pillion riders to wear helmet, following deaths of 4 women in 2 days

HYDERABAD: Four women pillion riders on bikes have lost their lives in road crashes in Petbasheerabad, Medchal and Bachupalli areas under Cyberabad limits during the last two days. Following these accidents, the Cyberabad traffic police in Telangana now urge pillion riders to wear helmets.
In all the cases, the pillion riders, women, were not wearing helmets and died due to severe head injuries. The riders survived with minor injuries, mentioned the traffic cops.
"As per section 129 of the MV Act, all persons above the age of four years must wear a standard protective headgear (helmet) while riding/pillion riding a two-wheeler in public places. Cyberabad Traffic Police is enforcing this rule very strictly," said a traffic cop, and further added, the usage of the quality helmet by both the rider and pillion rider improves the chances of survival in case of road crashes.
"Two-wheelers are seen without having side rearview mirrors. This is not only a violation of rules but also dangerous as the rider can not see the traffic coming from behind while taking a turn, overtaking any vehicle or changing lanes on roads," added the officer.
This could result in fatal accidents. CTP has been enforcing and planned to step up the enforcement given road safety. Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar urges the public to buy a standard, good quality helmet for road safety.
