According to the Ministry of External Affairs, "India and Australia, being two democratic countries, have developed an understanding of each other on regional and global issues. We share a common position on an independent, free, inclusive, and prosperous Indian Pacific. ”According to the statement, the two Prime Ministers had earlier held a telephonic conversation on 6 April 2020 to facilitate Kovid-19 and civilians stranded in each other's countries. The topic was discussed. Then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison talked about the importance of the Indian community, especially Indian students, in Australian society.

The statement from the ministry said that the virtual summit to be held between the two leaders would be an occasion when both sides would review the deepening relations and diverse dimensions of India and Australia and their countries regarding the Kovid-19 epidemic. We will discuss the response.

It added that Australia has supported India in a number of global activities such as the International Solar Alliance, India Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI). Australia supports India's permanent membership of an expanded UN Security Council. It also supported India's membership in the Wassenaar Group and Australia Group in the past. It also favored India's membership in the NSG.

According to the ministry, economic relations between India and Australia are growing. The business between the two countries was $ 21 billion in 2018-19. Both countries are determined to increase trade and investment.
