Windows 10 May 2020 Update has incorporated some changes to the Disk Cleanup. The decision came after a user complained about it in the feedback. The user mentioned that unknown sources are wiping out and deleting files that they actually wanted to keep, reported Tech radar.
The issue arose when Microsoft implement a change in the October 2018 update, whereby the Downloads folder was introduced as one of the options for files to be deleted from when performing a Disk Cleanup in Windows 10.
Disk Cleanup removes files that are not necessary to have on the machine, in order to free up disk space. However, sometimes users keep certain files in the downloads which they don’t want to remove.
The feature, however, is not set by default. The feature purges the Download folder when some inexperienced users tick every box thinking they would want to get rid of all the files and later realising that the recently downloaded ones are purged too.
At any rate, as Windows Latest reports, this has clearly caused enough confusion and negative feedback that Microsoft has removed the Downloads folder option from Disk Cleanup as of the May 2020 Update, Tech Radar report further added.
