Storm making its way to Mumbai, accompanied by winds of 125 km per hour
Tropical cyclone Nisarga made landfall near Nagaon, which is close to Alibaug on the Maharashtra coast, at about 12.50 pm and is moving towards Mumbai. Heavy winds of 125 km per hour coupled with torrential rains have driven residents indoors. A number of structural damages have been reported
Weather scientist and Deputy Director at IMD Mumbai in a media statement said the cyclone has made landfall and the process would be completed in the next three hours. The eye of the storm is Raigad, but it is moving northwards towards Mumbai and Thane. Areas near Dadar and Vile Parle in Mumbai may get flooded with 20 mm of rainfall expected today.
Hotelier Milind Nagvekar from Nagaon told BusinessLine that the heavy winds had uprooted five trees near his house.
Gale winds, with speeds reaching 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph, are prevailing over the East-central Arabian Sea, along & off the north Maharashtra coast (Raigad, Mumbai and adjoining Thane)
