AGRA: Mathura police on Wednesday arrested Congress workers demanding the release of party’s state chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, who was booked on charges of forgery of documents of buses arranged by the party for ferrying stranded migrant labourers during the coronavirus lockdown.
Circle Officer (city) Alok Dubey said, 9 Congress workers including two women were arrested for flouting prohibitory orders, which are imposed in the district. Almost 30 workers led by district unit president Deepak Chaudhary had gathered to stage a protest at the Collector’s office premises. She said that later they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Talking to media, district president, Chaudhary, said that they were protesting peacefully and demanding the release of the state president, who was wrongly booked by police. “If require, we will stage protests on roads,” he said, adding that the government only making laws for them not for their own people.
Congress state chief’s bail plea was rejected by a special MP-MLA court on Monday and he has been in judicial custody since May 21. After a standoff between the state government and the Congress over the party’s offer to run 1,000 buses, Lallu was arrested twice in Agra.
