‘Nisarga’ will intensify into a “severe cyclonic storm” and cross Alibag on Wednesday afternoon, bringing strong gale winds and extremely heavy rainfall to Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Raigad districts in Maharashtra, India Meteorological Department warned.

The cyclonic storm Nisarga lay centred about 280 km westnorthwest of Panjim (Goa), 250 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra), 200 km southsouthwest of Alibagh (Maharashtra) and 460 km south-southwest of Surat (Gujarat) as of 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, IMD said in it’s latest update.

“It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during next six hours.”

Nisarga will make landfall near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border between Harihareshwar and Daman, close to Alibag on Wednesday afternoon, “with a maximum sustained wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph,” the Met Department said.

Cyclone Nisarga is the second cyclone over North Indian Ocean this season after Amphan.
