SRINAGAR: J&K Union Territory administration on Wednesday released from detention former IAS officer and J&K People’s Movement (JKPM) chief
Shah Faesal as well as
PDP leaders Sartaj Madni and Peer Mansoor by revoking Public Safety Act (
PSA) against them.
More than 3,000 politicians and political activists were detained under various laws, including PSA, after August 5 last year, when the BJP-led central government ended the special status of J&K. Politicians against whom PSA was slapped included three former chief ministers – Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah (both NC) and Mehbooba Mufti (PDP). The Abdullahs have already been released.
Taking to Twitter, Omar Abdullah hailed the decision to release Faesal and the two PDP leaders and demanded freedom for NC leaders, including Ali Mohammad Sagar and Hilal Lone, and PDP chief Mehbooba.
“Good to hear @shahfaesal, Peer Mansoor & Sartaj Madani have been released from their unjust PSA detention,” he tweeted.
“Disappointed that @MehboobaMufti, Sagar Sb & Hilal Lone continue to be detained. It’s high time they are set free as well,” he said in another tweet.
After first setting free the Abdullahs, the J&K government had on April 25 freed 28 other people from PSA detention.
