Cyclone Nisarga update: 15 fallen tree and 9 water logging cases reported in Pune

Heavy rainfall caused due to cyclone Nisarga which made landfall on the coastal regions of Maharashtra has caused multiple cases of waterlogging and trees falling all over Pune city till 2 pm on Wednesday. A least of 15 trees have been reported to be fallen in different parts of the city which included fire brigade station and Bhosari colony in Kothrud, police lines in Swargate, Ramtekdi in Hadapsar, Panchvati in Pashan, Hyatt Hotel on Ahmednagar road, Kasturba Hospital and Kasturba Society in Vishrantwadi, Nat Stop Chowk in Erandwane, Salisbury Park Post Office, Pingale Vasti and Keshavnagar in Mundhwa, Wadia bungalow and mental hospital corner in Yerawada, Maldhakka chowk in Mangalwar Peth, Bhandarkar road, PMC Colony, parts of Koregaon Park, Bhandarkar road, Kharadi, Gunj Peth area, Kondhwa and more.

Water clogging cases have been reported in areas including Sadesatra Nali, Sasanenagar, Gangaram Hospital in Yerwada, Lashminagar, Shantirakshak Society in Yerwada, Tingrenagar in Hadapsar, DY Patil Park in Lohegaon and Agarwal Hospital in Chandannagar.

The fire brigade department had been receiving multiple calls since the incessant rainfall began in the city, two days prior to the hit of the cyclone and provided information about the water clogging. The fire department also received calls from containment zones in Pune, although they were removed from the list of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) issues on Tuesday.

Prashant Ranpise, the chief fire officer of Pune said, "We have masks, face shields, and hand gloves which are being used while we carry out our work. We do not have PPE kits. We had put across our demand to the health department, but we have not received any yet. So far, no calls have come from the updated containment zones list that was provided by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)."

20 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in coastal parts of Maharashtra. 8 teams have been sent to Mumbai, five in Rajgad, two in Palghar, Ratnagiri and Thane each and one in Singdhudurg.
