Telangana: Families refuse to take bodies of four coal mine workers who died in mishap in Singareni, demand Rs one crore compensation

HYDERABAD: Families of four coal mine contract workers who died in an explosives accident in Peddapalli in Singareni collieries have refused to take the bodies until compensation is given to them for the deaths.
Police have made elaborate bandodust arragements at the Singareni area hospital at Godavarikani in view of the tense situation.
Four contract workers Rajesh, Arjayya, Rakesh and Praveen died when boulders felt on them in the open cast mine at Ramagiri mandal when the explosives meant for blasting them went off even before they could be detonated in the open cast mine in Ramagundam. They died on the spot. Three others were injured.
Though the post-mortem on the bodies of the workers who died was completed on Tuesday evening itself, the families of the deceased refused to take them for performing the last rites. The various unions in Singareni Collieries Company Limited joined the family at the Singareni area hospital at Godavarikani boycotting work on Wednesday. They demanded that Rs one crore compensation should be paid to the families of the death and Rs 50 lakh to those injured.
It is learnt that the private contractor who was responsible for clearing the mud in the open case mine-1 had offered to pay Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased but this was not acceptable. The private company that was given the contract for carrying out the mud clearing was prevented by the police from carrying out any more work at the site as investigation was taken up on how the mishap occurred.
Singareni Collieries unions which called for a boycott of work on Tuesday said they were trying to convince the management to pay the compensation as demanded by the families as also provide a job to one person from the families of the victims.
