Rains cause water-logging in Pune
- Several low-lying areas in Maharashtra's Pune remained inundated due to rains brought in by cyclone 'Nisarga' since Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.
- Incidents of trees falling due to gusty winds have also been reported at some places in the city.
- The cyclone made landfall in coastal Raigad district, several kilometres away from here, on Wednesday afternoon.
BSE, NSE ready to access carry out operations from DR site amid cyclone threat
- To avoid any service disruption as a result of the cyclonic storm, BSE and National Stock Exchange will carry out operations from disaster recovery (DR) site, if required, the two leading exchanges said on Wednesday.
- In such a scenario, market participants will be intimated appropriately, the exchanges said in separate circulars.
- This comes following a warning issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) with regard to cyclonic storm "Nisarga", which hit Maharashtra on Wednesday.
Mumbai Cong sets up control room in view of 'Nisarga' cyclone
- The Mumbai unit of the Congress has set up a "control room" to assist people in view of the threat posed by the severe cyclonic storm 'Nisarga' that made landfall in Raigad on Wednesday.
- The Maharashtra Congress gave this information on its official Twitter handle.
- "The Congress is always ready to help you," said the party on the micro-blogging site.
Virus-hit Mumbai largely unscathed by Cyclone Nisarga
Coronavirus-hit Mumbai appeared to escape the worst of Cyclone Nisarga on Wednesday as the first severe storm to threaten India's financial capital in more than 70 years left it largely unscathed after ripping roofs off homes in a nearby coastal town.
Cyclone Nisarga shows signs of weakening
- After storming the Maharashtra coast with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph on Wednesday afternoon, Cyclone Nisarga has started weakening and its intensity will reduce further by evening, the India Meteorological Department said.
- The landfall of the cyclone began at 12.30 PM at Alibaug and the process was completed by 2.30 PM, IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra said.
- The storm lay 75 kilometres southeast of Mumbai and 65 kilometres west of Pune.
- It has started weakening. The wind speed is currently 90-100 kilometres per hour and the intensity will reduce further by evening, he said.

- As cyclonic storm Nisarga lashed the coast of Maharashtra on Wednesday, NCP chief Sharad Pawar urged his party workers to help people at the time of the natural disaster.
- In a statement, Pawar noted that the cyclone has caused severe damage to public and private properties and asked NCP workers to help those affected by the phenomenon.
No major impact in Gujarat after 'Nisarga' makes landfall in Maharashtra
- No untoward incident has been reported in southern coast of Gujarat so far on Wednesday due to the severe cyclonic storm 'Nisarga', which has made landfall in neighbouring Maharashtra, a senior official said.
- Authorities have so far shifted more than 63,700 people living close to the coast in eight districts to safer places as a precautionary measure, he said.
- The cyclone made landfall near Alibaug in coastal Raigad district of Maharashtra around 12:30 pm.

Cyclone: CM asks administration to ensure immediate relief
- Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday directed the state administration tomaintain operational readiness and ensure immediate rescue works as cyclone 'Nisarga moves from Mumbai and Thane to North Maharashtra.
- Thackeray is in constant touch with collectors of districts on the western coast of the state for updates about the impact of Nisarga, Chief Ministers Office (CMO) said.
- Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been affected by the severe cyclonic storm, which made landfall in Raigad district with a speed of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.
Three hurt as cement blocks fall on shanty due to gusty wind
- Three members of a family were injured on Wednesday when cement blocks fell on their shanty in a chawl from an adjacent under-construction building in suburban Santacruz here due to gusty winds, police said.
- Three shanties were damaged in the incident that occured arund 11:30 am in Dawari Nagar locality in Santacruz (East).
- The injured have been identified as Viraj Paste (15), Santosh Paste (43) and Sanjay Paste (45), a police official said.

Cyclone 'Nisarga' has made landfall near Alibaug on Maharashtra coast with the wind speed of more than 110 kms per hour and heavy rainfall, leading to falling of many trees and electricity poles, a Raigad district official said.

Cyclone Nisarga: 10 sailors rescued off Ratnagiri coast
- At least 10 sailors were rescued from a ship, which was stranded off the coast of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra due to high tide and heavy rains in the wake of cyclonic storm Nisarga on Wednesday, an official said.
- The vessel with a crew of 10 was spotted from the Mirya Bunder area of Ratnagiri and efforts were made to bring it to the coast, the official said.

- Cyclone Nisarga is moving along the predicted path and is expected to make landfall between 2 pm and 4:30 pm on Wednesday around Alibaug in Maharashtra, NDRF chief S N Pradhan said.
- The Director General (DG) of the federal contingency force said a total of 43 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are deployed in the two states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
- "The cyclone is expected to make landfall between 2 pm and 4:30 pm somewhere a little south of Alibaug in Raigad district," he said.

- In the wake of impending cyclone Nisarga, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday called for a structural inspection of temporary COVID-19 health centres.
- As a precautionary measure, the civic body has directed the contractors of the respective healthcare facilities to again review the safety and stability of the structures set up by them.

Over 50,000 evacuated in Gujarat, Daman ahead of cyclone
- Nearly 50,000 people living in coastal areas of South Gujarat and some 4,000 residents of the neighbouring Union Territory of Daman have so far been shifted to safer places ahead of the approaching cyclonic storm 'Nisarga', officials said on Wednesday.
- Police have been deployed on all the beaches in Gujarat's coastal belt and people have been asked to remain indoors, they said.

Cyclone: Maharashtra DyCM urges coastal residents to stay indoors
- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday urged people from the states coastal belt to remain in safer places in view of the cyclonic storm Nisarga, which is likely to make landfall in the afternoon.
- Pawar said people should not step outside home till the intensity of the storm fades.
- People from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts should remain in safer places, considering the landfall cyclonic storm Nisarga is set to make near Alibaug from Arabian sea, a statement quoted Pawar as saying.
HC allows ship anchored at Mumbai port to move to safer waters
- The Bombay High Court has permitted cruise ship M V Karnika, currently anchored at the Mumbai port after being placed under arrest, to move to safer waters outside the city in view of the cyclone Nisarga which is set to hit the Maharashtra coast on Wednesday afternoon.
- The vessel was placed under arrest on March 17, 2020 following a financial dispute between owners of the vessel.

- Nearly 43,000 people living near the coastline in Gujarat's Valsad and Navsari districts have so far been shifted to safer places as the state prepares to face the approaching cyclonic storm 'Nisarga', officials said on Wednesday.
- As many as 13 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and six teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed at different locations, the state government said in a release.
- Five more teams of NDRF have also been called in, the government said.
