Nisarga Cyclone Live: Cyclone intensifies further; Mumbai on high alert, section 144 imposed

Cyclone Nisarga Mumbai: The weather department said that Mumbai could be hammered with heavy rains and winds up to 110 km per hour. Sea waves as high as 6 feet may hit the coastal areas.

Cyclone Nisarga, Mumbai Weather Forecast Latest Updates: Mumbai and other neighbouring coastal districts in Maharashtra and Gujarat have been put on high alert as Cyclone Nisarga is headed towards the region. The cyclone in likely to make landfall on today afternoon near Alibaug, about 100 km from Mumbai. A latest update from the weather department said that Mumbai could be hammered with heavy rains and winds up to 110 km per hour. Sea waves as high as 6 feet may hit the coastal areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he took stock of the situation in the wake of cyclonic conditions in western India.  Skymet reported that “Cyclone Nisarga is the only storm in the last 100 years to form in the month of June and head for Maharashtra coast”.  Evacuation of people from coastal areas in both the states have been started and  33 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Maharashtra and Gujarat to tackle the situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray regarding state’s preparedness for the cyclone. Maharashtra, with over 70,000 cases, is already finding it difficult to contain the coronavirus pandemic. Mumbai is the worst-hit city reporting over 40,000 COVID-19 positive cases.
