Trabzonspor given one-year UEFA ban for FFP violations

2020-06-03 18:37

Turkish league leaders Trabzonspor have been handed a one-year ban from European competitions for failing to meet Financial Fair-Play regulations, UEFA announced on Wednesday.

The club would miss the next European tournament they qualify for, if it is in either the 2020/21 or 2021/22 seasons.

Trabzonspor were penalised for not respecting an agreement made in 2016 which said they were to break even by 2019.

They lead the Turkish Super Lig on head-to-head record ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir, with the division set to resume on 12 June following the coronavirus lockdown.

The league champions in Turkey automatically qualify for the next season's Champions League group stage.

Trabzonspor are only the latest club to fall foul of UEFA's FFP rules, with English champions Manchester City having appealed against a two-year ban and AC Milan missing out on this season's Europa League.
