STOCKHOLM - - Volvo Cars said its global vehicle sales fell 26 percent to 44,380 in May compared with the same month in 2019.
Sales were helped by improving showroom traffic trends in Europe, a quicker than expected recovery in the U.S., and strong growth in China, the company said in a statement.
Volvo said China sales grew 22 percent in May, while demand in Europe fell 50 percent as the region was still heavily affected by restrictions in many countries. Volvo said Europe had shown signs of recovery compared with the previous month.
U.S sales were down 2.5 percent in May.
The XC60 midsize SUV was the top selling model for the company, followed by the XC40 compact SUV and the XC90 large SUV.
Through May, Volvo's global sales fell 25 percent to 208,479.
