Buses back on roads, but virus scare keeps commuters away
The state transport corporations on Monday resumed bus services after 68 days, albeit with low occupancy amid the virus scare. While the crew wore gloves and masks, passengers were subjected to thermal screening, made to sit a seat away from one another, and mandated to wear masks and clean hands using sanitizers.
Tamil Nadu introduces cashless ticketing system in govt buses
As a step towards moving to digital payments, Tamil Nadu Transport Department on Monday launched cashless ticketing system in government buses. This trial run, introduced in two city buses (T Nagar to Secretariat and Saidapet to Secretariat), will soon be expanded to other routes across the state depending on the feedback, said MR Vijayabaskar, state transport minister.
Wards with high incidence of cases to have perimeter control
The corporation has announced a new containment strategy for Covid-19 hotspots in the city, especially in Tondiarpet and Royapuram zones. Wards in these zones which have a high incidence of cases will now have perimeter control, akin to the earlier containment street model.
