LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old cab driver allegedly pushed his three daughters into Ghaghra river in Sant Kabir Nagar following a tiff with his wife during the wee hours of Monday.
The accused informed the police that his daughters have been kidnapped. However, one of his friends, who helped him in committing the crime, spilled the beans during interrogation.
Both of them have been detained and divers of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and police have been pressed into service. The girls could not be traced till reports last came in.
According to police, Sarfaraz, a cab driver in Riyadh, had come to Sant Kabir Nagar to visit his in-laws' place in Dihwa village where his mother-in-law Mariya Khatoon, wife Sadira Khatoon and three daughters - Sana (6), Saba (4) and Shama (2) - lived.
Superintendent of police, Sant Kabir Nagar, Brajesh Singh said in an inebriated state, Sarfaraz had an altercation with his wife over the custody of the girls. While Sarfaraz wanted to take the girls with him, his wife insisted they should stay at her mother's place.
"On Sunday night, Sarfaraz left the house with his daughters. He also took a friend, Neeraj Maurya, along. They roamed around for a few hours and reached Bidhad Ghat during wee hours of Monday where they threw the girls into the river," the SP said.
Maurya spilled the beans during interrogation and said Sarfaraz himself threw his daughters into the river and cooked up a story.
