An uprooted electric pole after rain & hailstorm in Jaisalmer on MondayJAISALMER: Rain accompanied with hail hit many areas in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts due to western disturbance that started on Sunday and continued till Monday.
Normal life was thrown out of gear as rain filled many rivulets, ponds and tanks in the two districts. The villagers were happy as these rains have brought respite to their water problems.
On the other hand, over 300 electricity poles were uprooted in many areas of Barmer putting over 200 villages into darkness. At many places trees were uprooted and roofs of the houses were blown away. The electricity department is working at war footing to restore the power lines.
According to sources, Chauhatan, Sindhari, Baytoo, Dhorimanna, Gudamalani and other areas of Barmer district witnessed hail and rain with strong winds blowing at 50-60kmph. In Jaisalmer, rain hit Nachna, Mohangarh, Ramgarh, Pokharan, Ramdeora and other places.
Barmer electricity department SE M L Jat said in the last 36 hours, the department has suffered heavy losses in Barmer district. Electricity supply has been badly affected in many villages. As many as 21 feeders of 33KV and 33 11kv sub stations, 318 feeders of 11kv and 12 poles of 33kv, 175 poles of 11kv and 87LT poles collapsed and work is on to restore them.
