Thane records 397 fresh cases
- At least 397 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra's Thane district on Tuesday, taking the tally in the region to 9,062, a health official here said.
- Moreover, with 10 COVID-19 patients succumbing to the infection, the toll in the district rose to 283, the official said.
- According to reports from the district administration, most of the latest cases were reported from Thane city and Navi Mumbai civic corporation limits.
Karnataka reports 388 new cases
- The total cases have now reached 3,796.
- Most of the newly reported cases are linked to Maharashtra.
Rajasthan reports 273 new cases
- Total number of cases reach 9,373.
J&K reports 117 more cases
- Total number of cases in the UT reach 2,718.
Haryana reports 296 new cases
- Total number of cases reach 2,652.
In UK, drug trial results expected in early July
- The first results from the world's largest randomised trial of drugs to treat COVID-19 patients could be available in early July, one of the scientists leading the UK-based study called Recovery said on Tuesday.
- The first data from the study, which is testing a selection of existing drugs, is likely to come from a type of steroid called low-dose Dexamethasone and used to reduce inflammation, said Martin Landray, professor of medicine and epidemiology in the Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford.

China tests 10 million people; finds 300 asymptomatic cases
- China's aggressive testing of about 10 million people for coronavirus in Wuhan, the first epicentre of the virus outbreak, has not revealed new confirmed COVID-19 cases but 300 asymptomatic carriers, officials said.
- A total of 300 asymptomatic patients were found after 9.89 million people were tested in China's worst-hit city Wuhan with no confirmed COVID-19 cases, the city government said on Tuesday.
- The mass testing was carried out at a cost 900 million yuan (USD126 million), it said.
Punjab reports 41 new cases

West Bengal to set up 15 more hospitals
- Amid the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases following the return of migrant workers, the West Bengal government has decided to set up 15 more dedicated hospitals for coronavirus patients, a senior official said on Tuesday.
- A directive in this regard has already been sent to the state health department, which would soon set the ball rolling for the project, he said.
- Currently, the state has 69 dedicated hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients. Of them, 16 are run by the government and the rest by private entities.
Assam cases cross 1,500-mark
- The number of coronavirus cases in Assam reached 1,513 on Tuesday after 28 more people tested positive for COVID-19, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
- Of the 28 new cases, five returned to the state by air, 12 are from Nagaon, 10 from Golaghat and one from Jorhat district, the minister said.
- Forty persons have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease, he said.
Kerala reports 86 new cases
- The state also reported 1 more death.
- Kerala now has 774 active cases.
Testing lab not needed in every district: Maha govt to HC
- The Maharashtra government on Tuesday informed the Bombay High Court that COVID-19 testing facilities need not be set up in every district, as the outbreak is largely confined to urban or semi-urban areas.
- Besides, hospitals in many districts can not be upgraded quickly enough to set up coronavirus testing labs, it added.
- The reply, by the director of the health services, came in response to a Public Interest Litigation filed by Khalil Wasta.
Nagaland reports 6 new cases
- Nagaland reported six more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of people afflicted with coronavirus in the state to 49, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.
- All new patients had returned to the state from Chennai on May 22 by a Shramik Special train.
- The train brought back 1,328 residents of the state, who were stranded in different parts of Tamil Nadu due to the lockdown.
