The Palghar district administration is on high alert as cyclone Nisarga is expected to hit the west coast of Maharashtra, including Palghar on Wednesday night.
Two schools in Dahanu have been readied to move villagers staying close to the coast.
NDRF teams surveyed homes along the coast and have asked people to move out of their houses that are mostly thatched.
District officials said that the houses in Vasai taluka, Palghar and Dahanu have been surveyed. Villagers have been issued advisory on the cyclone. The evacuation process is to start by second half of the day.
Meanwhile, light showers were experienced in the district.
