Cyclone Nisarga live updates: Power supply hit in 4 Maharashtra districts, 25 lakh consumers affected

Two people died and three others were injured as Cyclone Nisarga wreaked havoc in rural parts of Pune in Maharashtra after making landfall in coastal Raigad district around 1pm. Earlier in the evening, state minister Balasaheb Thorat had said that threat posed by the cyclonic storm to Mumbai has lessened, but the next few hours will be crucial. Cyclone causes power disruption in 4 Maharashtra districts

Power supply to more than 25 lakh consumers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) in four districts of Raigad, Palghar, Thane and Pune has been interrupted due to the cyclone Nisarga, which made a landfall in Alibaug on Maharashtra's coast. The state utility cut the power supply to many substations in these districts as precautionary measure, the MSEDCL said. (PTI)

Worst over; NDRF teams to stay deployed in Nisarga-affected areas: DG

Cyclone Nisarga, which slammed the Maharashtra coast with wind speeds of up to 120kmph, caused minimal damage to life and property and the "worst is over", NDRF chief SN Pradhan said on Wednesday evening. Gujarat heaves sigh of relief as cyclone makes little impact

Cyclone Nisarga did not cause any major damage on the southern coast of Gujarat on Wednesday afternoon and evening following landfall near Alibaug in Maharashtra. The Gujarat government had evacuated over 63,700 people from coastal areas of eight districts and 18 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and six teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed for rescue operations. A 58-year-old man was killed after a power transformer collapsed on him due to the heavy winds in Raigad district as cyclone Nisarga lashed coastal Maharashtra on Wednesday, a police official said. The incident took place at Umate village near Revadanda around 1.30pm, he said. (PTI)
