Residents of the Diva complex clashed with cops on MondayTHANE: Over a hundred residents of a new residential complex in Diva (that lies between Mumbra and Dombivli) and those planning to move into their homes clashed with the police at the gates on Monday afternoon as Thane civic officials arrived to survey some towers for use as quarantine centres.
As many as 150 people, including women and the elderly, closed the complex gate and stonewalled the civic team that came to Runwal My City complex at Betawade village. Residents claimed the officials called in the police and, along with some local politicians, forced their way in leaving some of them injured in the scuffle.
Authorities said five of the 10 24-storey towers in the complex were earmarked as standby quarantine centres in March. The administration has now decided to make this facility operational.
