Trichy district of
Tamil Nadu recorded its first
Covid-19 death when a 74-year-old woman died in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (
MGMGH) here on Tuesday morning.
The woman, a resident of Alwar Thoppu in Trichy Corporation area, died in the intensive medical care unit (IMCU) of the hospital around 10am.
Hospital sources said the woman had comorbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
The woman, who was down with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), was admitted to MGMGH on May 27. She was under observation at the SARI ward.
Samples were taken from her on May 28. The lab at KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College attached to the MGMGH released the test results on the same day, following which the woman was shifted to the IMCU.
Doctors said they had tried their best to save her life, but her health condition failed to improve. They said the source of her infection could not be ascertained.
