A police officer gives instructions to the Quick Response Team at Juhu beach, in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.MUMBAI: In view of the cyclonic conditions in the city, the police on Tuesday issued an order prohibiting the movement of one or more persons in public places along the coast like beaches, promenades, parks and other similar places near the coastline. The police said that if anyone fails to abide by, will be booked under section 188 of the IPC.
DCP Pranaya Ashok (Operations) who also holds the portfolio of city spokesman, in his order said that whereas the IMDhas warned about the possible impact of the cyclone Nisarga along the western coastline of the country and Mumbai city is expected to be severely impacted by the cyclone and that there is grave danger to human life, health or safety due to the same. He stated that being the in the capacity of executive magistrate he is fully satisfied that there were sufficient reasons/grounds for passing prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPc to ensure that there is no danger to human life, health or safety.
His order stated that whereas Mumbai city is expected to be impacted by the cyclone Nisarga and it is considered expedient to issue prohibitory order for restricting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places along the coast like beaches, promenades, parks and other such places near the coastline where people may gather, to prevent loss of life and property in the areas under the control of commissioner of police, Mumbai.
Ashok promulgated an order under section 144 CrPC in the areas under the control of commissioner of police, Mumbai, prohibiting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places along the coast like beaches, promenades, parks and other such places near the coastline where people may gather. “This order shall come into force, in the areas under the control of commissioner of police, Mumbai, with effect from 00.01 hours on June 3 and ending at 12.00 hours on June 4 unless withdrawn earlier,” Ashok’s order said. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of the IPC.
