Two deaths, 138 new cases take Bihar tally to near 4,000-mark

PATNA: Two deaths and 138 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Bihar on Monday, taking the death toll to 23 and the total number of coronavirus cases to 3,945 in the state. With 1,742 recoveries and a suicide committed by a Covid-19 positive person, the active cases in Bihar now stand at 2,180.
The two deaths were reported from Bhagalpur, the district's first Covid death, and Begusarai. Sources said the deceased from Bhagalpur, who was in his early 40s, had returned from Mumbai on May 24 and was staying with his family in his village under Jagdishpur block without informing the administration.
When his health deteriorated, he was taken to a local hospital and then referred to the Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur on May 28 and died the same day. His sample was tested after his death and was found to be positive on May 29. However, the official confirmation came on Monday. The Begusarai Covid victim was aged around 60 and had no travel history. Sources said he was an asthma patient and went to Begusarai Sadar hospital for treatment. He died on Saturday and his sample tested positive for the virus after his death.
As per information shared by the state health department, Covid-19 cases on Monday were reported from 28 districts, with 16 cases from Darbhanga, followed by 14 cases from Khagaria, 10 from Katihar and nine cases from Siwan. Four cases were reported from Patna - a 50-year-old man at Kankarbagh, a 50-year-old man in Bajrangpuri locality and a 33-year-old man from Koroiyawan in Phulwarisharif block. The location of a 55-year-old Patna man was not provided by the department.
Of total cases reported on Monday, seven were children below 10 years of age with the youngest being a two-year-old girl in Bhagalpur.
