A Tamil Nadu man is said to have killed his teenage daughter in cold blood in a Pudukottai district village last month, hoping the sacrifice would bring him wealth and a baby boy.

And he is said to have killed the girl, 13, on the advice of a "sorcerer", who told him the sacrifice would make him richer. The latter is now the target of a police manhunt.

The man, Paneerselvam, and a few of his relatives have been arrested. They're being questioned.

On May 18, Paneerselvam's daughter went to fetch water from a well and did not return. She was eventually found near it, with wounds on her body.

The police initially suspected rape, but an investigation revealed that Paneerselvam -- who has two other daughters -- had killed her after listening to the "sorcerer".

He slit her throat, investigators say.
