Violence against Covid health workers unacceptable: PM Narendra Modi

BENGALURU: Hailing the corona warriors and frontline health workers for their fight against Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said violence against them is unacceptable.
The PM was speaking at the inauguration of the Foundation Day and silver jubilee celebrations of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences on Monday. Modi joined the meeting online. Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala, chief minister BS Yediyurappa, deputy chief minister CN Ashwath Narayan and medical education minister Dr Sudhakar attended the event.
"I'm aware of an area that is of great concern to you all. Due to mob mentality, those working on the frontlines - doctors, nurses or safai workers - are subject to violence...." he said.

I want to state it clearly: Violence, abuse and rude behaviour are not acceptable. Steps have been taken to protect you against any form of violence. We have provided Rs 50-lakh insurance cover for frontline workers,” Modi said.
Appreciating Karnataka’s efforts in handling the Covid-19 situation, the PM applauded health workers and corona warriors. Modi emphasised the need for discussions on three areas: Telemedicine, make-in-India in the health sector and IT-related tools for a healthier society. “One, can we think of new models to make telemedicine popular on a larger scale? Two, make-in-India in healthcare. Initial days made me optimistic. Domestic manufacturers are making PPE kits, have supplied 1 crore to corona warriors. Similarly, 1.2 crore make-in-India N-95 masks have been distributed to states. Third, IT-related tools for healthier society, and 12 crore people have downloaded the app,” he said.
Minister K Sudhakar said: “Karnataka is the first state to announce Unlock1.0. Everybody is required to take away the load of fear among public. Only 3-4% of infected people need ventilator. We can’t have lockdown permanently...”
