CHENNAI: Passengers who arrive by flights from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi will be tested for Covid-19 and business travellers from other states who plans to return in 48 hours will be exempted from quarantine, says a new protocol issued by the state government for domestic passengers. Already, the state government has exempted passengers who travel within the state from quarantine.
Domestic passengers will be exempted from tests only if they produce a Covid-negative certificate from an ICMR-approved lab.
“If the individual tests positive, he will be taken to hospital and treated as per the protocol. If individual tests negative, individual has to undergo home quarantine for 7 days. Individuals shall self-monitor health for 7 more days,” the document said.
Similarly, testing is compulsory for all passengers who travel by flights within the state and they will also be exempted only if there is a covid negative certificate.
The rules for international passengers says that all those who land at an airport will have to give swab samples for two RT-PCR tests and will have to pay for compulsory seven days quarantine, , says a protocol released by the state government regarding handling of air passengers.
RT-PCR tests will be done on all passengers arriving from abroad soon after arrival and another seven days after arrival. “The passengers will have to undergo institutional quarantine for seven days.”
“If they test negative, they will be put into paid quarantine for seven days. There will be another test on the seventh day. If the test taken is negative they can go into home quarantine.” They will be put into institutional quarantine only if there is no facility at home for isolation.
Though paying for quarantine will be encouraged, there could be exceptions for those who are economically poor.
