As the Cyclone Nisarga whirls towards Maharashtra at a steady pace, concerns have been expressed about the nuclear and chemical plants that would come in its direct path. Some parts of Mumbai have started to witness a drizzle as the cyclonic storm Nisarga over east central Arabian sea moves closer. Areas like Borivali, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri west, Parel, Mulund are witnessing showers so far.
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackerays office earlier in the day said that out of the 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, 10 have been deployed in the coastal areas of the state.
"To cross North Maharashtra and adjoining South Gujarat coast between Harihareshwar and Daman, close to Alibag (Raigad) a/n 03rd Jun as a SCS with a max sustained wind 100-110 gusting to 120 kmph, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai's deputy director general of meteorology KS Hosalikar said.
The cyclonic storm is currently located 280 km west-southwest of Panjim, 430 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 640 km south-southwest of Surat.

10 NDRF teams deployed as cyclonic storm approaches: Maharashtra CM
Ten teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed for rescue operations in view of the 'Nisarga' cyclone, which is likely to hit the west coast of Maharashtra on Wednesday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday.

Thirty-three NDRF teams have been deployed in the coastal districts of Maharashtra and Gujarat in view of the impending Cyclone Nisarga, the chief of the federal contingency force said on Tuesday. In a video message, NDRF Director General (DG) S N Pradhan said, "Gujarat and Maharashtra have 11 and 10 teams respectively and they are being deployed in the coastal districts facing the Arabian Sea".
How the cyclone 'Nisarga' was named
A week after cyclone 'Amphan' wreaked havoc in West Bengal, the country is now bracing to face another cyclone which is headed towards the coastline of Maharashtra and Gujarat. 'Nisarga', which is currently brewing in the Arabian Sea, means nature and was termed by India's neighbouring country -- Bangladesh. The name was accorded in a list formulated by a group of countries.
