The nationwide unrest in the United States rages on for the sixth day after the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in the custody of Minneapolis Police last Monday. What began as peaceful demonstrations across major US cites following the incident have now turned violent as police intensified aggression, injuring and arresting many protesters.

Wide-scale arson, looting and vandalism were also reported across several violence-affected cities in the US including New York and Washington DC. Protesters have reportedly set fire to road signs near the White House and the situation outside continues to remain tense even as curfew remains in place.

The situation continues to remain equally tense in Minneapolis, where Floyd died last Monday in the custody of Minneapolis Police. It has yet again sparked outrage over racism and protesters are not satisfied with the arrest of the police officer who has been charged with third-degree murder.

As protests continue for the sixth day, IndiaToday.in brings you all the live updates on the George Floyd Protests:

12:00 PM: Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin, who has been charged with murder in connection with the death of George Floyd, is all set to appear in court on Monday, reported CNN. According to jail records seen by the publication, the hearing is scheduled for 2 pm Eastern time or 11:30 pm IST. The development has also been confirmed by the Hennepin County Court Public Information Officer Spenser Bickett.

The 44-year-old ex-officer was on Friday charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

11:15 AM: Turbulent confrontations between police and protesters continue in New York as well, reported The Guardian. This is the fourth night of demonstration in New York, according to the publication. Hundreds have been arrested in the city including Mayor Bill deBlasio's daughter Chiara deBlasio.

She was arrested during Saturday night protests, reported local news outlets. The New York Police Union tweeted personal information about the mayor's daughter's arrest, the Guardian report added.

Large-scale looting, arson and vandalism have also been reported from the city as police and protesters clashed.

10:25 AM: Secret Service agents rushed US President Donald Trump to a White House bunker in the wake of the protests outside the executive mansion. The Associated Press reported that Trump spent nearly an hour in the bunker, which was is usually used for emergencies like terrorist attacks. Protests are expected to continue for the sixth consecutive day in US after the death of an unarmed black man in police custody. Protesters are demanding stricter punishment for the police officer who has been charged with manslaughter and murder.

10:09 AM: The New York Times reported moments ago that fires are burning in the streets near the White House in Washington, where a curfew came to effect at 11 pm Eastern Time or 8:30 am (IST). The situation continues to tense across dozens of other US cities where mayors have called curfews and governors have called in the National Guard to bring the situation under control. However, that has been largely counter-productive as the outrage continues to grow.

10:00 AM: Protests are likely to intensify across several US cities as police aggression against the protesters intensified. Several protesters have been injured as police fired pellets at them. Protesters have even defied curfews in many cities where demonstrations continue in full force for the sixth consecutive day. The situation outside the White House also continues to remain tense as protesters have torched signs nearby. The New York Times reported that the White House has gone dark and all external lights have been turned off.
