PWD to crack whip against users of booster pumps

Taking cognisance of the complaints and newspaper reports over poor water supply, the PWD water supply officials conducted an inspection and recovered 6 booster pumps that were installed to draw water illegally from a pipeline, thereby causing hardships to people of Nerul. Taking cognisance of the report which appeared in this daily on “Nerul  village not getting water supply from April’ “and complaints from villagers of not receiving water supply” the water department officials conducted an inspection and discovered that there were 6 booster pumps installed on the PWD water pipeline to suck water.

Speaking to this daily the Executive Engineer of PWD water department Nitin Neurekar said that a task force will be constituted to take action against those found indulging is such kinds of illegal activities in the area. There are many such cases especially at Anjuna, Baga, Siolim and Nerul. He said that a person from the water department that is Pernem, Mapusa and Porvorim division will be put on the job in forming this task force. If anyone is caught using booster pumps then he will be fined Rs 10,000 and his water connection will be permanently cancelled.

The villagers of Nerul in the last month had raised their strong concern over the acute water shortage which compelled the Nerul civic and consumer forum to take up the matter with the PWD principal chief engineer Neurekar.

The assistant engineer further added that the use of booster pumps to draw water from the PWD pipelines deprived the villagers of water living at the tail end.
