HYDERABAD: A 48-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her husband in SR Nagar on Monday during an altercation over personal issues at their house.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s family members, police took the offender into custody. The victim was Rani (48), wife of Sanjeeva. According to SR Nagar police, Sanjeeva is working as a driver at TB training institute near Government Chest Hospital in SR Nagar.
Rani and Sanjeeva have two daughters and a son. The eldest daughter has been married. Family has been staying at government quarters near a chest hospital. Two days ago, the couple’s 20-year-old second daughter and their 18-year-old son went to their grandparent’s house in RC Puram. On Sunday night, both Sanjeeva and Rani consumed liquor at home and then had an argument over certain family matters.
“During the argument, Sanjeeva lost his cool and started assaulting Rani. He picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Rani in the abdomen, causing a severe bleeding injury,” said SR Nagar inspector Murali Krishna.
Though the incident had happened in the wee hours of Monday, Sanjeeva informed his family only at 11 a.m. “Sanjeeva called his son at around 11 a.m on Monday to inform him that his mother did not wake up from sleep. Sanjeeva’s son and other family members rushed home from RC Puram and found her lying dead at home. As soon as his son reached home, Sanjeeva fled from the place,” the inspector said.
Later during the day, police picked up Sanjeeva from SR Nagar and a murder case was registered against him under section 302 of the IPC.
