Trump to expand G7, give India seat at table

Trump told reporters, that he is 'postponing it until September' and plans to invite Russia, South Korea, Australia and India.

NEW DELHI: India may get a seat at an expanded G7 as US President Donald Trump wants to revamp the ‘outdated’ grouping.“I do not feel G7 properly represents what is going on in the world. It’s a very outdated group of countries.

I would like to invite Russia, South Korea, Australia and India to join an expanded summit in the fall,” Trump told reporters.He also postponed the proposed ‘in-person’ G7 summit scheduled to be held at the White House this month to September.

India is yet to respond to the ‘invitation’.Trump’s moves come in the wake of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s refusal to attend the in-person G7 meet amid the pandemic.Group of Seven is an international economic organization comprising 7 advanced nations — US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and UK. It holds annual meetings to discuss international economic coordination.
