As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from Ahmedabad.
* Update by PTI at 10.50am: India registers biggest single-day spike of 8,392 Covid-19 cases; total tally rises to 1,90,535, death toll climbs to 5,394, reports PTI quoting Union health ministry
*A low-pressure area over southeast and eastcentral Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm after moving northwards, affecting southern Gujarat and northern Maharashtra area, stated the India Meteorological Department (IMD)
* Update by ANI at 9.35am: GSRTC resumes its bus services

*The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport and the Bus Rapid Transit services are set to commence operations from Monday. However, the carrying capacity of each bus has been reduced by 50%. The city bus service had been off the road since March end when the lockdown 1.0 was announced.
*Despite the state’s nod to allow economic activity including jewellery stores to remain open since May 19, jewellers across Ahmedabad stare at a bleak future.
*The Gujarat high court has said that the private hospitals have infrastructure and money to help people in the Covid-19 pandemic and they should not think of profit because God is watching us and their good deeds would not go unnoticed in the eye of the Almighty.
*Modelled around the ‘Gulbai Tekra’ Covid-19 micro-containment strategy, where a concentrated cluster of houses has been declared as a containment area, the civic body has used the concept to battle Covid-19 across the entire city as part of its ‘unlock-1’ strategy.
*The Ahmedabad district including the city crossed 12,000 total Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday with addition of 299 cases in past 24 hours. Now the total for the district is 12,180 – of which 220 are from outside AMC limits. Analysis of the figures show that in the month of May, Ahmedabad added 9,154 cases at an average of 295 cases daily.
