DMK urges Tamil Nadu govt to curb spread of Covid-19 at least by June 30

M K Stalin
CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Monday urged Tamil Nadu government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at least by the end of the fifth phase of lockdown (June 30). He accused the state government of not taking preventive steps in March when the first case was reported.
In a statement, Stalin said chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on April 16 assured to control the virus in three days.
“The lockdown has been extended many times, but the number of cases has only been increasing. The total number in Tamil Nadu has crossed 22,000. The number of cases in Chennai too has been increasing,” he said.
He said 50% of the patients are still undergoing treatment and deaths was increasing.
“The state government said that it wouldn’t allow anyone to die, but death toll now stands at 173. The chief minister claims that death percentage in Tamil Nadu is lower compared other states. He must have meant Gujarat that is being ruled by BJP. The chief minister did not mention Gujarat because its former chief minister might take offense,” Stalin said.
Stalin said the government failed in protecting people from the virus. He said, “We presented one lakh petitions during the first phase of the lockdown which DMK got on party’s Ondrinaivom Vaa’ helpline, but the government claimed that there were only 98,752 petitions. If the government claims that it has protected people during lockdown, why are there so many petitions from people especially for food?”
