COIMBATORE: Train services resumed at Coimbatore Junction railway station on Monday after 67 days. Two special trains — Coimbatore Katpadi Express and Coimbatore Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express -- departed at 6.15am and 7.10am respectively.
The train to Katpadi had an occupancy rate of only 24.61% However, the Jan Shatabdi Express had 68.76% occupancy.
Both the trains departed on time, and all passengers had to undergo thermal screening, wear masks throughout and wash their hands frequently. Their tickets were checked while entering the station premises.
Passengers, who wanted to travel beyond Erode district had to obtain e-passes. There were confusions in the morning regarding the issuance of passes. However, those without the pass too could board the train after filling a form with their address and contact details. Anticipating this confusion, many passengers were at the station as early as 4am.
Food and refreshments counter, book stalls and other shops in the station were not allowed to operate.
