Illinois governor j-b pritzker activating 375 members of the illinois national guard to help chicago officials respond to violent protests.

Pritzker said chicago mayor lori lightfoot asked for the state's assistance when saturday's peaceful protests turned into fires -- looting -- and property destruction.

The soldiers will assist the chicago police department by helping manage street closures.... they will*not interfere with protests.
